Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward was announced in Las Vegas this weekend at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival. As Kotaku reports, the first expansion for the critically acclaimed MMORPG will feature a slew of new content including a level cap increase to sixty, new areas, jobs, dungeons, gear, recipes, high-end raids, and airship content for free companies.
Based on the teaser trailer, the expansion may bring players to the previously closed-off area of Ishgard in the Coerthas Central Highlands between Camp Dragonhead and Whitebrim Front. The trailer shows a sojourning warrior advancing through snowy terrain and a conflict of arms between dragons and a host of dragoons donning what appear to be new sets of armor, likely a sampling of the new level 60 class-specific gear.
Heavensward will release in Spring of 2015 following the release of the highly anticipated patch 2.4, Dreams of Ice, later this month.
Editor’s note: Patch 2.4 released on October 28, 2014. (Revised 11/7/2014)
